You have found evidence of rodents in the duct system in Darien. Droppings at a register opening. Nesting material visible in a duct when you removed a grille. A persistent rodent odor from the vents when the HVAC runs in Darien, IL. You are right that this is more serious than a standard cleaning situation in Darien. Rodent contamination in a duct system creates health risks that standard cleaning approaches are not designed to address in Darien, IL. The contamination includes biological waste that carries specific pathogens. The HVAC system has been distributing those pathogens to every room in the home with every cycle in Darien.
The most serious specific health risk from rodent droppings in a duct system is hantavirus pulmonary syndrome in Darien, IL. The virus becomes airborne when droppings are disturbed and dried rodent waste becomes aerosolized in Darien. A HVAC system with rodent contaminated ducts that runs without the ducts being decontaminated is aerosolizing dried rodent waste and distributing it to every room in the home in Darien, IL. Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome has a fatality rate of approximately 38 percent among confirmed cases in Darien. The risk is real and specific and it warrants treatment that accounts for it in Darien, IL.
American Air Duct performs rodent contaminated duct cleaning throughout Darien with the correct safety protocols, correct equipment, and the complete decontamination scope that rodent contamination requires in Darien, IL. Stop running the HVAC. Call American Air Duct now for same-day scheduling in Darien.
Rodent contaminated duct cleaning is not standard duct cleaning in Darien. It requires specific safety protocols that protect both the technicians performing the work and the occupants of the home in Darien, IL. It requires HEPA filtration equipment that captures the fine particles of dried rodent waste that standard duct cleaning equipment passes through in Darien. It requires antimicrobial decontamination treatment applied after thorough physical removal of all waste and nesting material in Darien, IL. And it requires assessment of the entry points rodents used to access the duct system so those points can be sealed against future intrusion in Darien.
Standard duct cleaning agitates duct surfaces and captures the dislodged particles using vacuum equipment in Darien. For standard contamination types, this approach is appropriate in Darien, IL. For rodent contamination, the agitation step creates a specific risk because dried rodent waste aerosolized during agitation can carry hantavirus and other pathogens in Darien. The correct approach uses specific containment protocols, technician respiratory protection, and HEPA filtration equipment before any agitation of contaminated surfaces occurs in Darien, IL. American Air Duct uses the CDC-recommended wet-down protocol for rodent waste before any mechanical agitation to reduce aerosolization risk in Darien.
Running the HVAC system with rodent contaminated ducts distributes dried rodent waste particles and the pathogens they may carry to every room in the home with every cycle in Darien. Stop running the HVAC immediately if you have confirmed or strongly suspected rodent contamination in the duct system in Darien, IL. Call American Air Duct for same-day scheduling in Darien.
Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome is caused by hantaviruses carried primarily by deer mice in Darien, IL. The virus is shed in droppings, urine, and saliva. Human infection occurs primarily through inhalation of aerosolized viral particles from disturbed dried rodent waste in Darien. A duct system with rodent droppings that runs the HVAC aerosolizes dried waste and distributes it throughout the home in Darien, IL. Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome has a significant fatality rate among confirmed cases in Darien.
Rodent droppings can carry salmonella and other bacterial pathogens in Darien. Other bacterial pathogens associated with rodent waste include leptospira bacteria that cause leptospirosis in Darien, IL. Antimicrobial decontamination treatment following thorough physical removal addresses bacterial contamination on the cleaned duct surfaces in Darien.
Rodent dander, urine proteins, and droppings are significant allergens for sensitized individuals in Darien, IL. The HVAC has been distributing rodent allergen proteins throughout the home with every cycle in Darien. Occupants with rodent allergies experience persistent allergic symptoms when the duct system carries rodent allergen contamination in Darien, IL.
Rodent activity in duct systems attracts secondary pests in Darien. Insects and mites that parasitize rodents can infest the duct system and surrounding areas after the rodents have departed or been exterminated in Darien, IL. Complete removal of all rodent waste and nesting material eliminates the food and habitat source for secondary pest infestation in Darien.
Rodent droppings at register openings or on duct surfaces when a register is removed are direct confirmation of rodent activity in Darien, IL. Mouse droppings are approximately the size and shape of a grain of rice in Darien. Both mouse and rat droppings indicate active or recent rodent presence in the duct system in Darien, IL.
Nesting material including insulation fibers, paper, fabric, and plant material at register openings indicates active or recent rodent nesting in the duct system in Darien. The visible nesting material is the portion accessible at the register opening — the bulk is further in the duct system in Darien, IL.
Gnaw marks on flexible ductwork, on duct insulation in attics or crawl spaces, or on plastic duct components indicate rodent activity in or near the duct system in Darien, IL. Rodents chew to create or enlarge entry points and gather nesting material in Darien.
A musky rodent odor from supply registers during HVAC operation indicates active rodent presence or significant rodent waste accumulation in the duct system in Darien. A decomposition odor indicates a deceased rodent in the duct system in Darien, IL.
Droppings, gnaw marks, or nesting material near the air handler cabinet indicate that rodents have accessed or are attempting to access the HVAC system at the air handler in Darien, IL. Air handlers are a common rodent entry point because they provide access to the complete duct network from a single location in Darien.
Without appropriate respiratory protection for the technicians and containment of the work area, the agitation step in standard cleaning creates exposure risk for everyone in and near the home in Darien, IL. American Air Duct uses the CDC-recommended wet-down protocol for rodent waste before any mechanical agitation to reduce aerosolization risk in Darien.
The filtration in standard duct cleaning equipment may not capture the finest particles of dried rodent waste including the viral and bacterial particles associated with hantavirus and other pathogens in Darien. HEPA filtration captures particles down to 0.3 microns with 99.97 percent efficiency in Darien, IL. HEPA-equipped vacuum equipment is the appropriate standard for rodent contamination work because it captures the particle sizes associated with the relevant health risks in Darien.
Rodent duct decontamination without identifying and sealing the entry points rodents used to access the duct system is a temporary solution in Darien. The same entry points that allowed the initial contamination remain available for re-entry in Darien, IL. American Air Duct assesses the duct system for entry points during the decontamination service and provides specific recommendations for sealing those points in Darien. Sealing the entry points is what makes the decontamination a lasting solution in Darien, IL.
Camera inspection to identify the distribution and extent of rodent contamination throughout the system in Darien, IL. Assessment of the duct system for entry points rodents have used or are currently using to access the system in Darien. Identification of every contaminated duct section and system component requiring decontamination in Darien, IL.
Before any work with rodent-contaminated materials begins, American Air Duct technicians don appropriate personal protective equipment including N95 or higher respiratory protection, gloves, and eye protection in Darien. Work area containment is established to prevent contamination from the decontamination process from spreading to uncontaminated areas in Darien, IL. HEPA-equipped vacuum equipment is connected to the duct system in Darien.
Rodent droppings and nesting material are treated with an EPA-registered disinfectant spray before any physical disturbance in Darien, IL. The wet-down step reduces aerosolization of dried waste particles during the physical removal process in Darien. After the disinfectant contact time has been met, physical removal of all treated waste and nesting material proceeds in Darien, IL. All removed material is sealed in appropriate disposal containers in Darien.
After gross waste removal, HEPA-equipped vacuum equipment is used to clean all contaminated duct surfaces throughout the affected sections in Darien. The HEPA filtration captures the fine particles of residual dried waste including the particle sizes associated with hantavirus and other pathogens in Darien, IL. Thorough surface cleaning of all contaminated duct interior surfaces follows HEPA vacuuming in Darien.
After thorough physical cleaning, American Air Duct applies EPA-registered antimicrobial decontamination treatment to all cleaned duct surfaces and system components affected by the rodent contamination in Darien, IL. The product is applied in the correct concentration and allowed to dwell for the required contact time to produce the rated antimicrobial effect in Darien.
Before leaving, American Air Duct provides a written report identifying the entry points found during the assessment in Darien. Where entry point sealing is within our service scope, we seal the identified points before leaving in Darien, IL. Where points require HVAC contractor or pest control coordination, we provide the specific information needed to brief those contractors in Darien.
